What makes a vision board idea worth using
A vision board collects images, words and goals for the life you want, so you see them often enough to act on them. The ideas below are grouped by area of life. Don't use all of them: pick the three or four areas that matter most in 2027 and go deep on those.
A good idea has three things: an image that means something to you personally, a short line that says what you want, and, where it fits, one concrete next step. The last part is what separates a board you look at from a board you work from.
Featured example: business goals by quarter
Jennifer is a health and life coach for women. A few weeks into xTiles, Jennifer's first board was a vision board for the business: one yearly goal at the top, broken down into a tile for each quarter, with images alongside. The first usable version took less than a day.
- Top tile: the yearly goal in one sentence, with an image that captures it.
- Four quarter tiles: what has to be true by the end of Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4.
- Images and quotes next to each quarter, so the board stays a vision board and not a spreadsheet.
The quarter split is what makes a yearly vision usable. A year is too far away to act on; a quarter is close enough to plan the next week around.

Vision board formats to try in 2027
Sometimes the idea isn't what goes on the board but how the board is built:
- A quarterly board: one board per quarter instead of one for the year.
- A one-word board: everything on it relates to your word of the year.
- A board per area of life, kept in one project with a page for each.
- A before-and-after board: where you are now next to where you want to be.
- A shared board with a partner or family, for goals you chase together.
- A 10-year board next to a 1-year board, so this year ladders up to something bigger.
Free vision board templates to start from
Instead of starting from a blank page, pick the template closest to how you think about your year and adapt it. All of these are in the xTiles template gallery.
1. Vision Board Template: photo tiles by area of life
Large photo tiles with a label for each area, such as health or personal development. The best starting point if you think in images. Open the Vision Board Template.
2. My Vision Board: be, see, try, visit
Organises the board by verbs: who you want to be, places to see, things to try and visit, with short descriptions next to the photos. Good for travel and experience goals. Open My Vision Board.
3. Vision Board: a free-form photo collage
A simple collage of photos and quotes, closest to a paper board. You can even embed a song that motivates you. Open the Vision Board.
4. Yearly Vision Board: vision plus action steps
Pairs a written description of your year with images, a checklist of actions and a note on your motivation. Closest to the business board in the example above. Open the Yearly Vision Board.
5. Yearly Planner: look back before you look ahead
Not a vision board itself, but a good first step: review the main events, people and lessons of the year, then set goals on the next page. Open the Yearly Planner.
How to build your board from the free template
Start from the Vision Board Template
Open the free Vision Board Template and add it to a project. Delete the areas you will not use this year.
Give each area a tile
One tile per area: a short goal line, a photo and, where it helps, a quote. Search the Unsplash photos built into xTiles, or upload your own.
Split the big goals by quarter
For the one or two goals that matter most, add a tile per quarter like Jennifer's business board, each with what has to be done by then.
Turn next steps into dated tasks
Add a task under a goal and give it a date. It appears in My Planner on that day, so the vision shows up in the week where the work happens.
A vision board only works if you see it. Open it at the start of each week, before you plan the next seven days, and update one tile every time something changes.
Optional: let ChatGPT build an image-rich first draft
If you use ChatGPT, connect it to xTiles and describe your year: the areas, the goals and the mood. It can build the project with matching images pulled in for you, and you edit from there. Here's how to have ChatGPT build an image-rich project page.
